Field Trip to the Black Canyon

We couldn’t resist… it is perfect fall weather. We live in beautiful Colorado! You simply can’t stay at home on a perfect fall day in Colorado. The mountains beckoned…… so…… we packed a lunch and boys, and headed off for a family day in the great outdoors. The Black Canyon was our first stop.
It is quite impossible to get the full effect of the Black Canyon on film. It really is…. Here are my guys checking things out….

The bottom... you could hear the roar of the water.
What a thrill to see birds flying below you!
Then off to get even higher. We headed up to an area called Crystal Creek.

And no trip to the mountains is complete without a campfire and marshmallows!

Canning Cherries

Canning Cherries was the name of the game today and yesterday two of my boys and I pitted 40 pounds.
9 quarts of canned cherries
7 quarts of Cherry Rhubarb Pie Filling
7 pints of Cherry Pie Filling
7 pints of cherry juice
1 bowl of cherries to snack on
1 batch of homemade cherry sauce ice cream topping.
And one or two very cute pictures.
